CONVERSING WITH BIRDS is an illustrated narrative poem that recounts the author's internal conflict and eventual escape from a career as a tax enforcer which, though meaningful and necessary, he no longer had the heart to continue. It is written as an allegorical autobiography wherein the characters are wolves, wizards and a dragon, and the story is advanced by dialogues arising from encounters with a series of birds.



The last half of the book consists of 30 full page color plates of Alaskan landscape art and wildflower, bird and animal images from the scenic Kenai Lake region around Cooper Landing, Alaska.
