À propos du Ebook
Advanced Drawing is a course that engages students in contemporary art practices and theory related to drawing, as well as encourage sophisticated and dedicated student research that is primarily focused on one theme, idea, subject, media or method. Typically each student works in a self-directed manner, meeting with the instructor one-on-one, and participating in group critiques with their peers. In the spirit of collaboration, my recent class was asked to create a series of group drawings that would evolve over the course of the semester. The works contained in this publication are the results of that project.
In honor of the Royal Art Lodge and their collaborative drawing projects, my students created weekly drawings, sorted them into piles of good, OK or bad, setting the “good” drawings aside, passing the “OK” drawings onto other artists, and disposing of the “bad” drawings in the trash. This process continued for 15 weeks, until almost 100 drawings were narrowed down to those collected in this publication. The results may be described as quirky, eclectic, chaotic, or even clashing, but it is an accurate sampling of the visual interests and signatures of the students involved. Most importantly it was an engaging forum for discussion, debate and critique.
