Since adolescence I have always had a morbid attraction for overseas travel in search of different cultures, customs, smells, tastes that could satisfy my greedy curiosity ". In the early days (then twenty) photography was nothing but a way to document and report to my friends and relatives my travel experiences, places, monuments and above all the faces I met in my long stays abroad. I soon realized that something was missing in those images, people's expressions were unnatural because they were aware of being photographed, serious looks always turned towards the lens ... photographs without any authentic feeling and emotion. Dissatisfied with the early work I began to refine a new technique to try to capture the most natural moments and expressions possible, a technique that grew slowly ... matured in the street ... from the colorful Bolivian markets to the chaotic Indian railway stations ... from the thick Indonesian rainforests to the remote mountain villages in Ethiopia. Not to be observed to observe, to be confused among the people to be part of it, to try to disappear to give transparency. I therefore started not to frame the subject through the lens but with the camera on its side ... calculating the perspective for the shot to have the maximum discretion possible and to obtain the expressive naturalness of the subject.
