À propos du livre
This is the second volume of a Catalogue of the Reform Club's Collection of artefacts commemorating its political members and the political issues they espoused. The artefacts are mainly commemorative ceramics; many of the items illustrated are extremely rare; some are unique.
As well as being the first substantial, illustrated catalogue of its kind, it offers in an attractive and unusual form a brief history of political and electoral reform in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This volume deals with the period after 1840, covering the Second Reform Act of 1867, the Third Reform Act of 1884; the campaign led by many Reform Club members for free-trade and the repeal of the Corn Laws; and the counter campaign in the early Twentieth Century to reintroduce tariffs on certain imported goods; Irish Home Rule; and also election campaigns conducted by many members of the Reform Club during the 19th and 20th Centuries. People featured include, amongst many others, W. E. Gladstone; Richard Cobden; John Bright; Joe Chamberlain; David Lloyd George.
