This issue looks at Berke's now-abandoned daily routine of drawing from found vintage photographs, focusing on drawings from March through June of 2006. Each spread shows a reference photo used to draw from, a scans of the original drawing unchanged, along with a version that was colored digitally.

Lauren Simkin Berke is a Brooklyn based artist and illustrator who identifies primarily as a drawer (of the ink on paper variety). Berke's personal work starts with drawing based on photographs and ephemera. Berke's illustration work is figurative and narrative, intended to evoke the experiential memory of the reader (whether from the experience of reality, dreams or the imagination). Berke create illustrations for clients such as The New York Times, The Advocate, OUT, Simon & Schuster, and Rémy Martin, and has been publishing art books and zines under the name Captain Sears Press since 2012.
