À propos du livre
This collection of images was inspired by the way light changes the colour and contrast of what we see around us. By taking pictures of everyday scenes and objects, and manipulating the contrast and colour of selective areas, I have created images that cannot be obtained using natural light.
The majority of the pictures use the colour already contained within the digital image, enhancing it by changing the contrast and brightness. In others I have painted selective areas, or changed the background colour.
The original idea for TOXIC came from some of my early attempts at the digital manipulation of photographs. These were mainly landscapes, and the enhanced colour made them look like the vegetation had been poisoned. This was later extended to stone, brick and wood. By selectively manipulating areas, things such as moss and algae, which were previously invisible, began to appear.
My work is intended to make people look again at what is around them. Ordinary objects such as brick walls and gates can take on a new form when removed from their everyday context.

À propos du créateur

I worked in Adult & Further Education in England for 40 years as a lecturer and college Principal, but retired in 2008. I originally trained as an artist and used photography as means of recording my work. I also collect tinplate model railways produced between 1900 to 1930 and in particular tinplate buildings. The books currently available through Blurb combine these two interests and enable me to share this with a wider audience.
