À propos du livre
When I first started out as an artist in the early 1980’s, I could not get a legit gallery exhibit anywhere, because I did not have an MFA. I would show my work in vacant storefront windows doing walk-up exhibits, or at punk shows. I painted on buildings, and pasted up Xerox’s. In 1988, I opened my first, and now infamous gallery “The Museum of Cheap Art” while living in Omaha to exhibit my art.
During this time very few galleries in America showed self-taught, punk, street artists. The art establishment regarded us as backwoods idiots who lacked the bourgeois sophistication to actually create conceptual art, and not much has changed.
For a few years, I had been secretly working on experimental photographs while working as a photographer. Late one night, while sitting in the Leavenworth Cafe, I created Scherzkopf (Joke Head) as a conceptual assault on the elitist art scene, and as a tribute to Marcel Duchamp.
