John Hovig's Monogram Paintings are letter shapes painted in a hand-drawn fashion atop standard office-supply security envelopes. The letter shapes were selected to be reminiscent of concepts from skulls to religious icons. In this publication, Hovig matches his paintings, executed in 2007, with images found online in 2014. While the images were intentionally designed to encode certain ideas, this is the first time that Hovig actually identified specific images to match each idea. The result is nine unique collages, one for each painting.
