Born in Germany where he attended school in Frankfort until he migrated to New York City in 1941. He then was an art major in Straubenmuller Textile High School. He subsequently received a scholarship to F.I.T. in New York City from which he graduated in 1951.
He then worked as a designer and created fashions, fabrics and embroideries to which he later added wallpapers, carpets and furniture. He joined forces with a partner in 1956 and built a successful interior design firm. They later expanded to include an antique business, art gallery and an architectural design firm named Hermitage House.
Manfred became interested in oil painting and then studied with Lionel Gilbert in New York. Later he became a student at Bercone Studios under the direction of Aron Berkman and Janet Cohen.
In 1982 he relocated to West Palm Beach. He then joined classes at the Boca Raton Museum, where he studied with Arthur Sarnof for three years. He later took classes at F.I.T. in New York and the West Palm Beach Armory Art School.
He taught classes at the Montessori School in West Palm Beach for two semesters.
The students were six to twelve years old. He also taught at the Weiss School in Palm Beach Gardens. While summering in North Carolina he enjoys oil painting, creating stain glass windows and gardening.
