Berlin is a site laced with a series of veils. If one could take cross sections of its history, she might find it more difficult to cut through some layers than others. Buried within the bunkers of bureaucracy, and in the private tombs of the ruling class, are a complex set of spatial relations and social scars, some of the deepest of which are 57 and 27 years old. In some ways, Berlin is a place whose stories continue to be reset. Yet, sifted to the surface, one can find a highlighted history; packaged, put on a postcard and covered in a construction dust, we are encouraged to gently sweep aside.



Somewhere between the buried and the historicized, between the new glass skyscrapers and the bullet-riddled concrete, you will find the artists herein—all transplants from the US—slicing and sorting their way through relationships between Berlin and itself at large, from their own interrelated valences. —H.
