Neighbourhoods and Society



The images in this book taken by British artist and photographer Peter Walker were inspired during a short assignment he undertook when studying for an MA in International Photojournalism, Documentary and Travel Photography at The University of Bolton.



Peter's passion for his hometown of Oldham in England led to him developing this idea into a photographic project entitled 'Neighbourhoods and Society'. This culminated in an exhibition shown at Gallery Oldham June to July 2008 and the production of this book. He is continuing to work on - a collection of images that will be further developed over the next two years.



Peter has been a professional photographer for ten years; during this time he has produced many social documentary images of his hometown of Oldham.



Through his community work Peter has acknowledged that differences in people’s lives and their neighbourhoods can be represented through photography and that this difference is what makes such images of interest.
