Photographed and written by Anne Cutler, one of the pioneers of digital near-infrared (IR) photography, TREECYCLE is full of gorgeous B&W infrared photos of living trees, and their counterpart, driftwood. Combining the influences of environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy and the photographic perfection of Ansel Adams, Cutler has created a photography book with a very unique look. She speaks visually in an artistic voice all her own, and wants to help her peers to do the same.

Digital IR photography, capturing the ethereal light spectrum just beyond visible light, has become one of the most talked about topics among photographers in the past several years. B&W photography has been around for eons, but B&W digital IR photography is brand new and has a look entirely its own. Anne Cutler, primarily through her work on the internet, is inspiring photographers all over the world to experiment with IR filters.

In TREECYCLE Cutler demonstrates the power of IR by photographing living trees, and their counterparts, driftwood. She sees independence and grandeur in the living trees, and mysterious creatures in the driftwood. They are all brilliantly captured using her unique photographic tools and vision.

She also documents how she overcame several obstacles during her exploration of digital near-infrared photography. From using different IR filters to modifying her cameras, she explains how her groundbreaking path lead her to perfect her vision.

The 120 page book contains over 100 original photos in three sections. A 10 page introduction, 48 pages of "Livewood," living trees thriving in their environments around her home in Marin County, California, and 50 pages of "Deadwood" driftwood she found on the breathtaking beaches of Marin County, California.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Anne Cutler is a native of Greenwich Connecticut. She relocated to San Francisco in 1985 to attend The Academy of Art College. In 1993 she founded Gecko Graphics and began free lancing as a graphic designer for Grateful Dead Productions. She designed 30 CDs for them and also put her talents to use in advertising, web design, illustration, photo editing and sales.

In 2001 she had her first solo art show of drawings, paintings and photography. She was astonished to find her infrared photography was receiving the most attention. At that moment she decided to pursue photography full time.

She served as the moderator of the Photography forums at the largest website for artists, www.wetcanvas.com and was a multiple winner of the Weekly Photo Contest at the premier site for digital photographers, www.fredmiranda.com.

Anne Cutler's photoblog, www.geckonia.com, was one of the top 20 photoblogs in the world in 2007. It was ranked #5 in the USA by VFXY.com. She has an enormous following among internet users and is also well known for her past work for Grateful Dead Records.
