À propos du livre
Enjoy more than 400 photographs taken by the author across the United States during five decades. The emphasis is on the man-made beauty of the Northeast—from Manhattan architecture to Vermont foliage—and on the natural beauty of the West, both its mountains and its erosion-carved landscapes.
The photography features, natural light, the effects of weather, patterns in both architecture and nature, and the ability to see beauty both in broad landscapes and in narrow angles that focus on one aspect of a subject to symbolize the whole.
Each image was chosen for its photographic quality rather than for its content. The result is a selection of images that capture the beauty of America, rather than a complete collection of familiar American landmarks.
To supplement this visual interpretation, the author also has included a dozen word portraits—his memories and impressions of individual states, people, and events.
