À propos du livre
Window shopping represents a period in time where shop front displays were far more creative and extravagant than they are today. These pictures were taken by a professional commercial photographer in Bournemouth around 1951 of the two main Department Stores in the centre of Bournemouth.
In the 50’s and for quite some time after, the two main Department stores were Plummer’s and Bobby’s. Bobby’s still exists as department stores although the name has changed to Debenhams. Plummer’s was sold in 1972 and has been converted to offices on the upper floors with various shop fronts on the ground floor.
This book focuses mainly on Bobby’s Department Store, although there are some shop displays from Plummer’s and possibly other shops of that time. Along with the fascinating and artistic style of setting out the display, there are some interesting references to the Monarchy which I can only assume to be referencing the accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.
