In the early 1970’s CBC broadcaster and filmmaker Chip Young was offered a rare invitation to document the daily lives of the reclusive Amish, Mennonite and Brethren communities of Canada.



Over the years the images he captured suffered an undignified hibernation. Many did not survive. Those that did bear the scars of neglect.



They offer a window into a timeless world, to a people who live on earth’s terms: taking from it only what they need and then replacing and replenishing, ensuring another season, another harvest. This selfless way of life continues today as it has for generations.



These photographs stand as enduring portraits of Gelassenheit - the eternal humility of letting be.
