À propos du livre
I returned to Japan already knowing what I would find. Not an idea of harmony, but something harder to define: contrasts coexisting without declaring themselves. Three and a half years earlier, I had sensed that tension beneath the surface. This time, I recognized it immediately. In the rhythm of the stations, in measured silences, in orderly lines, in precise answers. Japan is also this: simple questions and simple replies entrusted with the delicate task of preserving harmony. A harmony that is not natural, but constructed. Renewed every day. Walking among temples, stations, narrow kitchens and crowded sidewalks, I felt two opposing movements at once: stillness and tension. Care and control. Beauty and discipline. Within that seemingly perfect balance, I also sensed a quiet unease, as if something inside me could not fully internalize that order. This book is born from that subtle space. It is not a story about Japan. It is an attempt to remain within that passage, to watch while passing.
