I started photographing the still-life series
supporting structures during the Covid-19
lockdown in winter/spring 2021. ’Still lives’ of
the lockdown are an ironic double pun: barely
lives and lives that have to calm down to en-
dure, lives reduced to the shadows of them-
selves. But shadows happen to be power-
ful in forming things. Shadows are the result
of the light let in, permitted when no other
visitors are allowed. Just like the lockdown
was a system of constraints on where and
when you could go, the sunset at that time
of the day and the year would give me half
an hour to quickly put together simple paper
models made of A4 paper sheets, fragile mo-
mentary supporting structures lending support
and structure to the life going still - still going.
