À propos du livre
Isaac S. McNamee (1832–1909) and his son, Emery Melvin McNamee (1858–1959), lived lives marked by resilience, craftsmanship, and lasting influence. Orphaned at just eight years old while traveling west by wagon train, Isaac was taken in by the John Holland family—skilled carpenters who shaped his future. From them, Isaac learned the building trades and went on to become a master carpenter and contractor, first in Minnesota and later in Indiana. In 1900, after decades of experience, he found his true calling: perfecting the design of the true-circular barn. What followed was a quiet architectural revolution that would reshape agricultural building practices during the first two decades of the twentieth century. Emery carried his father’s legacy across an extraordinary geographic range. Over the course of a century-long life, his work stretched from Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa to Montana and into Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Prairie Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. A gifted designer, builder, and contractor, Emery left his mark on houses, grain elevators, government buildings—and most notably, round barns.
