À propos du livre
Told herein for the first time in the English language is the groundbreaking combat history of the famed 2e Régiment Étranger de Parachutistes in the Algerian War. From the moment they arrived in Algeria during the autumn of 1955, and for the entirety of the violent hostilities, the 2e REP found itself rooted in a brutal guerrilla war amidst the harsh terrain of the Aurès and Nementcha mountain ranges, often helicoptering from one mountain range to the next with the principal aim of hunting down and destroying the elusive fighters of the Armée de libération nationale. The regiment finally found itself caught up in the political turmoil of the Generals Putsch, an practically unheard of soubrette that the regiment played a part in. Their intriguing part in the putsch would result in devastating Gaullist reprisals and the culling of the 2e REP's leading officers. Under a new commander, the regiment was banished to Bou Sfer, where it radically restructured and promptly began redeveloping its combat training, which, in the end, would shepherd one of the most efficient, if not elite, parachute regiments in the world. The book features an annual order of battle right down to section level, two maps, and 50 unpublished photographs.
