À propos du livre
'A Labour of Love' is the story of EC Greenall confectioners and bakery in Duke Street, St Helens in north-west England. Established in 1954 by Elizabeth Greenall, her son Colin took over the business in 1970 and ran it until his retirement in November 2022 aged 78.
The book features photographs from the 1977 Silver Jubilee and other local occasions, including photos taken just before Colin's retirement as 68 years of the family business came to a close. It also features links to audio interviews with Colin conducted in the bakery about the history of the shop and his life there.
The book also includes images that formed part of a special exhibition in late 2023 to celebrate the history of the shop as part of the St Helens Borough of Culture celebrations.
A much-loved part of the local area, 'A Labour of Love' is the story of one man's efforts to keep alive a small independent business in a world that came to be dominated by supermarkets and online shopping.
