À propos du livre
Ten years after her first series of large-scale large paintings, « Metamorphoses of Fluids », exhibited in 2012 at the Water Pavilion with Eau de Paris and the City of Paris, and coming back to her studio and to painting on frames, after several years devoted to work on photographs, on free supports and in harmony with ephemeral installations in situ in nature, French visual artist Violaine Vieillefond invites us to a new interpretation of her favourite subject, water, at once as a pictorial medium subject, a symbol, and a resource at the heart of contemporary issues, in its beauty with both its creative and destructive power, and of the Blue color (s).
« Gold Blue », richly illustrated, and with texts by art historian Annie Dubernard Laurent, unfolds over a powerful trilogy (« Shades of Blue », «Lights of Foam », « L'oro dell'acqua », 2020-2022) consisting of large-scale polyptychs and folding screens, ending up in a firework recalling the blues and golds of Byzantine and Venetian mosaics, which will be presented in 2024 in the Sala della Musica of Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, in Venice in the Cannaregio district, collateral to a National Pavilion of the 60th Biennale of Art, in a subtle dialogue with the beautiful 18th century frescos and stucs decorating the walls and ceilings exceptionnally arranged for this occasion.
Violaine Vieillefond was born near Paris in 1970. Her mother was a teacher in Comparative Literature and Art History and her father was an engineer. From childhood she had received interacting influences. She was first trained in Science and Political Sciences. At the same time she took courses in Art History and pursued her training at the Atelier des Beaux-Arts of the City of Paris with painter Martin Bissière, a grandson of Roger Bissière, famous artist of the Ecole de Paris.
As an engineer and visual artist, she has always been fascinated by the images and experiments she observed in the course of her scientific studies : colored fluids in movem
