In order to explore the experience of grief from new perspectives, I sent an email to a group of friends and family asking them specific questions about the grief/loss they’ve faced in their own lives. The answers to these questions were then compiled along, with imagery, into the book Grief is a Reservoir. This act of collection and publishing happened in the fall of 2021 and was in response to a project prompt from Ariana Jacob at Portland State University. With this project, I was exploring my own grief while also being in conversation with my loved ones about their experiences. I was especially interested in the question - what if grief was a more communal practice?
