Almost three decades after a near-death experience at Bleu's Lake, college professor and acclaimed horror novelist, Neil Reddy, is approached by a stalker at a book signing. After their brief encounter, Neil starts to dredge up the moments surrounding the incident when he fell through the frozen lake and nearly drowned at the age of twelve.

The following day, Neil visits his disabled brother, Ajay, who has a new nurse's aide, Kamaria Solarin.
