À propos du livre
In his 1965 essay, "The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby" Tom Wolfe describes fantasy designs from the custom car culture. For me the best quality of the custom or classic midcentury automobile is the sculptural quality. If they never cruised the strip blasting “Doo Wop” these automobiles would be fine sculpture kinetic or not. At least, that's what I was thinking one afternoon on a visit to the custom car show when I made these photographs. These photographs focus on the sculptural aspects of the classic streamlined hot rod narrowly limiting the view to that small part of the construct that best represents the idea of the thing. "Paint, Metal, Glass, Plastic" is my representation of the memories, wishes, and dreams of the car culture.
