À propos du livre
This is the illustrated story of a unique, community quilt project, and an international team of 65 quilters headed by Elspeth Krisor, working to benefit the James Tiptree Jr Award. Years in the making, the quilt is enormous—about 12 feet on a side. The design features a bold, gradient sweep inspired by James Tiptree Jr.’s (Alice Sheldon’s) novel, Brightness Falls from the Air, assembled by the volunteers into 304 three-by-three inch blocks, and then further assembled by the lead quilters into the final matrix. The Tiptree quilt project may possibly be unique in the annals of quilting. Unlike the more familiar communal quilts (like the AIDS quilt) in which contributors are responsible for their own designs, this quilt design was created by graphic artist Jeanne Gomoll on computer, followed by a reality screening by Tracy Benton. Contributors received a kit containing the necessary fabrics and detailed construction directions. The quilt was donated to the Knight Library in Eugene OR.
