There are over 110,000 miles of major walking trails in France.
Walking trails are marked by small slashes painted on trees, rocks, utility poles, fence posts, even buildings.
These marks, (called fleches) taken on hikes in the Corbiere region of France, have a variety of messages for walkers -“this way”, or “don’t go there!” etc. but also contain a visual richness when seen in a different context from their original purpose.
The photographs in this book is part of a series, which I call “visual noise”, taken over the last 5 years looking at the texture, colour and form of the marks themselves.
