Murray Zimiles is an artist and the Kempner Distinguished Professor at Purchase College, State University of New York, where he has taught since 1977. His art work has been exhibited worldwide and is in many important museum collections. He has recently been elected to the National Academy of Design, New York. Mr. Zimiles has travelled widely in Eastern Europe, photographing the remnants of Jewish life. His art work draws from the huge collection of photographs he has amassed. In 2007 he was the curator
of the exhibition Gilded Lions and Jeweled Horses, From the Synagogue to the Carousel at the American Folk Art Museum, New York; the exhibition catalogue won the 2007 National Jewish Book Award.
