Marieke van der Velden is a Dutch photographer who, alongside her commercial assignments, has traveled extensively around the world over the past twenty years. She has been commissioned more than 50 times by NGOs such as UNICEF to document and tell their stories. Since 2011, she has also developed a range of self-initiated projects.

Through projects such as 'Baghdad Today', 'A Monday in Kabul', 'The Island of All Together' and 'Children of the Labyrinth', she seeks to place daily news events within a broader perspective for viewers. Her work has been published and broadcast worldwide.
