John retired in 2004. He and his wife, Wendy, have traveled the world..He created more than 140 paintings of the people, places and animals they met on overseas travels and the beautiful Maine seascapes. This art work was featured in his book. "MY TRAVELS - MY ART" published in 2023. More recently his paintings focus on landscapes in the National Parks and were published in "HIKING IN THE NATIONAL PARKS - MY FAVORITE TRAILS". Currently, he is completing a six year sculpting project at his home in Maine. "SCULPTURE GARDEN ON KILKENNY COVE" will be published in 2026.
During a 30 year academic career, he held faculty positions at seven major research universities, His research and teaching focused on changing large complex organization and improving quality. He is author of more than 80 research articles and books. In recognition of his teaching contributions, NASA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Penn State Graduate School alumni presented him with Distinguished Service awards
