Liberated Arts Collective began in 2016 at the Youth Justice Coalition (YJC), and came about through the collective vision of Manuel Barrios, Veronique d'Entremont, Dennis Durbin, Paul Macias, Walter Wilson and others.
Our goal is to create healing spaces for individuals whose lives have been impacted by incarceration and institutionalization. Many of these have been workshops offered at transitional houses across LA County, especially facilities working to support alternative sentencing programs.

In spring 2020, we offered online workshops to YJC’s FREE LA High School youth who were stuck at home due to COVID. Ra Avis, Veronique d'Entremont, Cole M. James, Veronica De Jesus and Jasmine Nyende each led tender and heartfelt art and writing workshops aimed at young people, speaking to their own experiences with incarceration or its impact on family. This workshop series inspired our first publication HOW TO SURVIVE A QUARANTINE.
