Michael Boatright has been making photographs since he was in high school, when he learned composition, lighting and darkroom techniques from his father, James who was a professional photographer. He currently serves as Secretary and a board member of the Southeastern Photographic Society and has won numerous ribbons in competitions in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has been a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia since 1980 and is a graduate of the Education For Ministry program administered by the University of the South. He has served as a youth advisor, lay reader, Eucharistic minister and adult and youth Christian education teacher and is currently a member of the parish's Arts Theology Committee.
