Joan's life is centred on her family. She has many interests, friends and activities- singing in a choir, crafting, and carrying on a business started by her late husband, Bob Ortiz, but family is utmost.

She lives in Montreal close by to all of them - her two sons, Ryan and Darren, her daughters-in-law, Joelle and Jenny, and their children, Julia, Lauren, Mia and Evyn.

Her three books have been written for and inspired by her four beautiful granddaughters. Her first, "Letting Grow" by her eldest, Julia, and the latest, "The Princess and the Panda", by her two youngest, Mia and Evyn.
