I was born and raised in Düsseldorf, Germany, where I went to school and obtained a PhD in biochemistry. I moved to Scotland for postdoctoral training and then to the US to pursue an academic career in cancer research in both California and then Florida.
My interest in photography goes back to my childhood days when I started to take my first pictures with my dad's SLR camera, an East German Praktica. Over the next several decades, I became more and more ambitious, and meanwhile I am pretty well equipped with Nikon gear. Now freshly retired, I can devote even more time to my passion.
I live with my wife and two cats in Tampa, Florida, USA.
