À propos du livre
This work focuses around a concern with place, belonging and change. These photographs are quiet and contemplative, a meditation on the transition from childhood to adulthood. While Kauffman's earlier photographs focused on changing physical landscapes, the newer images deal with a changing psychological landscape. The images in this series are quiet and spare. Like landscapes, many feature a horizon line– this time from a counter or carpet. It is as if the camera has been left to document its surroundings. We see the artifacts of a home well lived in– filled with knick-knacks, matching curtains and comfort juxtaposed with a newer, more uncertain space. This newer space is more sparse, more bare, more clinical; it is temporary– a momentary pause to look about and reconsider. At the same time, hints of a newer life are apparent– an open door or a pair of shoes comfortably set aside. The space between childhood and adulthood is tenuous. These images investigate that space.
