JOE SANKOVICH served as a priest of the Altoona-Johnstown, PA diocese from 1970-71 and then the Archdiocese of Detroit until 1976.
He resigned from clerical ministry and his experience in cemetery management brought him to Seattle in 1984 as Director of Cemeteries where he served until 1990. He then began a cemetery consulting business assisting many dioceses and archdioceses around the country and is now semi-retired. He has lived in Tucson, Arizona since 1997. During his time in Seattle he became associated with our local group of resigned priests, The Seattle Group.
Joe has written a powerful autobiography that explores in depth the various phases of his life. He has done extensive counseling along his journey as a gay man and shares very bravely and powerfully the psychodynamics of the various stages of his life path. The very attractively formatted book is 251 pages long and provides remarkable insights into one man's struggle and achievements to discover his authentic self and live it out.
