À propos du livre
We all have this thing called "The Bucket List."
As a child in the 1950’s growing up in my rural North Carolina home, I watched the Triple Crown races for 3-year old thoroughbreds on small black-and-white televisions. I had little knowledge about the horses going into those races but the pageantry captured and held my fancy through the ensuing years.
In 1973 as a 28 year old, I saw Secretariat running “all alone” in the now colorized television screen, galloping far away to a mesmerizing and rare Triple Crown victory in the Belmont Stakes. An indelible memory.
To capture the Triple Crown, a horse has to win the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, and the Belmont Stakes in the New York City vicinity, all within five weeks in May and June. Over nearly 100 years, only twelve horses have achieved this remarkable feat.
At some point in my life, I had to see these three races in person--all of them. The Bucket List. At the top.
I did. With family. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was exhilarated. This is my pictorial account.
