À propos du livre
Kaleidoscapes London celebrates and transforms the iconic modernist architecture of twenty first century London into unique kaleidoscopic apophenia imagery.
Kaleidoscapes draw on the modern architecture, transcending space; shapes; light; and disrupts the order of things. It is not the intention of Kaleidoscapes to diminish the importance of the architecture but rather to pay homage. These photographs reveal the poetry that surrounds us in our daily lives. The complexity of ultra-modern structures, Kaleidoscapes expands beyond the geometry shapes and forms that are found. Kaleidoscapes embraces futuristic architecture with its unique angles, oval lines, sharp edges, triangles and domes in their structures. This approach that takes structural elements from the environment emphasizes an impression sustaining the continuity of the structures with their dynamic forms.
When looking at a Kaleidoscapes photograph, we are not merely looking at buildings or landscapes, but rather at the vision that the artist intended to share with us. We can then understand that beyond the subject we see, lies a completely different reality that the artist is presenting. To contemplate a Kaleidoscapes photograph is to accept it through different eyes; this requires a certain amount of open mindedness.
London is a city world renowned for its architecture, from old to new, traditional to contemporary, art deco to gothic, and many styles in between, there are hundreds of superb buildings in the capital. The significance of modern monumental architecture lies not only in the function it is built to serve but also in the cultural values it represents. Modern monumental architecture is aesthetic as well as functional, and in its aesthetic aspects it is a form of cultural expression.
