À propos du livre
Life as a boarder at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Montreal is a far cry from the brutality and narrow-mindedness Suzie experienced at her small-town public elementary school. An American by birth, nine-year-old Suzie struggles to navigate the French/English divisions in Quebec while immersing herself in Sacred Heart convent life. With the 1960s exploding around her, she weathers the perplexities of sibling love and rivalry, senses a looming tragedy in her family, and tries to grasp the gracious old-world ways of the nuns before many of their traditions slip away forever. This little memoir is the first in a trilogy spanning the years 1964 through 1972 at Sacred Heart's City House in Montreal.
