À propos du livre
As a member of the LGBT community, the topics of gender and sexuality are very important to me. I believe there is an extreme lack of education on these topics, which has caused a massive oppression of people who struggle with their gender identity and sexual orientation.
My goal with this project was to educate people that gender is a spectrum and does not solely reside in the terms of male and female. As well as breaking the wall of heteronormativity, getting people to open their mind to sexuality and not always assuming someone is heterosexual.
Since these topics can be rather intense I wanted this to also be a fun, interesting and easy-to-digest piece for the reader. This is why I chose to use bright colors and an "emoji" style for the illustrations that accompany each letter. The emoji is a growing phenomenon in the world right now and becoming a language of its own. Diversity within emojis lacks and some people are very under-represented so I hoped to showcase them more.
